Posted: 01/19/11In the past two weeks the La Mesa Police Department has received a number of reports of vehicle burglaries occurring overnight. The time frame for a large percentage of the burglaries is between 8:00 PM and 7:00 AM. There are no specific days of the week that are consistently more active than the others. In most of the cases, a window is smashed on the car in order to gain access to the interior. The items stolen include purses, wallets, backpacks, electronics, GPS units, CD’s, tools, cell phones, laptops, clothing, and sunglasses, typically left in plain view in the vehicle.
Shopping centers, medical facilities, and gyms are also targets for car burglars due to the high volume of cars in one area. Please do not assume that simply locking your car doors is enough to deter a burglar. Make it a habit to: -Never leave valuables in your car-Always lock your car when you leave it parked -Set the alarm if you have one installed -Park in a well-lit area -Park in your garage if you have one, and close and lock the garage door -Watch out for your neighbors’ vehicles -If you see someone loitering in a parking lot or near a vehicle, call the police |
