At 9:50 AM, Wednesday, June 22, 2011, La Mesa Police Dispatch received a 911 call of an attempted robbery that just occurred in the parking lot near the Bank of America at Grossmont Center in La Mesa.
The attempted robbery occurred when the female victim was walking from her parked car toward the Bank of America. The female victim was carrying her deposit bag, in plain view, under her left arm. The male suspect approached the victim from the west while he pretended to be talking on his cell phone. When the suspect got close to the victim, he reached across her body and grabbed her deposit bag. A struggle for the deposit bag ensued and the victim bit the suspect on his right arm above his wrist. After being bit, the suspect ran away and headed north on Center St. toward the intersection of Grossmont Center Dr. The victim lost sight of the suspect after he ran away.
Officers responded to the area and began a search for the suspect but he was not located. No suspect vehicle was seen or heard by any witnesses.
The suspect was described as a Black male adult, 5-10 to 5-11, thin build, wearing a yellow and black baseball cap, a tank top (unknown color), yellow and black short pants, knee high white socks and Nike tennis shoes.
The female victim did not sustain any injuries as a result of the assault. It is unknown at this time whether the victim’s bite broke the suspect’s skin. There was no loss because the female victim was able to retain her deposit bag.
