Man Arrested in Zales Jewelry Store Robbery PDF Print E-mail
On 06/14/11, at approximately 8:17 p.m., the Zales Jewelry Store was robbed
at gunpoint by a lone suspect. The suspect posed as a customer inside the
store for nearly an hour before brandishing a black semi-automatic handgun
at store employees and ordering them to the ground. The suspect stole a
total of 19 rings from the display case and fled the scene on foot. The total
value of the rings was estimated at nearly $77,000.

La Mesa Police Detectives later identified the suspect as 22 year old Derek
Patterson. On 06/27/11, detectives arrested Patterson at the Motel 6 located
at 7621 Alvarado Road in La Mesa. Patterson was booked into San Diego
County Jail on the following charges:

• 211 PC – Robbery
• 496(a) PC – Possession of Stolen Property
