| Is La Mesa Becoming '2/11' Robbery Heaven? |

LA MESA -- The people of the Jewel of the Hills like to think of La Mesa as San Diego's best small town. Over the last 10 days, however, this small town has been the center of a big and startling crime spree -- five armed robberies, including one of a man sitting alone in his parked car. No shots were fired. No one injured. But some local nerves have frayed as this string of 2/11s -- the police code for robberies -- has played out. Locals are asking if something is amiss in our police work or is this just an anomaly of crime statistics that, in general, are still at historically low levels? Or has La Mesa for some reason become "2/11 heaven'' for a new generation of robbers.
