Attempted Robbery on Dallas St - Suspect Arrested PDF Print E-mail
On 12-24-11, at approximately 6:00 P.M., La Mesa Police Officers responded to a report of a robbery in the 8500 block of Dallas Street in the City of La Mesa. Officers arriving at the scene were flagged down by the 15 year old male victim and his father. The victim told officers he was riding his skateboard on the sidewalk when he was confronted by the suspect, who was holding a large hunting knife. The suspect pointed the knife at the victim and demanded property. The victim refused to give up his property and after a few moments the suspect gave up his robbery attempt and ran towards the house at 8526 Dallas Street. The victim returned home and told his father and brother about the robbery. The victim's father and brother went to confront the suspect at 8526 Dallas Street. They were greeted at the door by the suspect, who was now armed with a small pocket knife. After being confronted with the knife, the victim's father and brother left the house and called the police for assistance.

During the police investigation, the suspect was located in the back yard of 8526 Dallas Street. The suspect ran from officers and was eventually cornered on the neighbor's roof top. After several minutes of negotiation, the suspect came down from the roof and was taken into custody without further incident. The victim was not injured. Suspect: Walter Barrios, 22 years old, from La Mesa. Barrios was booked into San Diego County Jail for 664/211 P.C. Attempted Robbery and 417(a)(1) P.C. Brandishing a Knife.
